A Valentine’s Day Guide: Strikhedonia Edition
Break The Valentine’s Day Traditions
To hell with regular Valentine’s Day traditions, celebrate this Valentine’s Day Strikhedonia style. You can start by throwing away the chocolates and ditching the candlelight dinners. Oh, and don’t even think about buying flowers or that diamond necklace. Give your significant other a Valentine’s Day to remember by doing something together. Such as, riding bikes through an unexplored trail or going skydiving off the coast of California. You can even keep it simple, like, cooking a new dish that you’ve never tried before or roasting marshmallows over a fire in your backyard. Whatever you decide to do, just be sure to say “To hell with Valentine’s traditions.”
Celebrate “Strikhedonia” Style
Idea #1: Travel.
Are you not sure where to go? Have your valentine close their eyes and point to a spot on the globe. Then, grab your passport, a plane ticket, and be on your way. If you don’t have much time off of work or are on a tight budget, maybe take a trip up the road instead. Break out of your four walls and venture to your favorite camping spot, beach, cabin in the woods, a lake house, anywhere your heart desires (isn’t that what Valentine’s Day is about?). There’s so much more of the world to see than where we lay our head at night. Here are some of the top most booked locations in the world for Valentine’s weekend according to Newsweek:
- Paris, France
- London, Great Britain
- Los Angeles, California

Idea #2: Do something outdoors.
Maybe try skydiving, rock climbing, or bungee jumping together. Or, if you’re not an adrenaline junkie there’s hiking, biking, or kayaking. Is it cold where you are (or where you’re going)? There’s still plenty to do! Try skiing, snowboarding, or ice fishing. If that’s not your style, there’s always ice skating or sledding. To hell with sitting inside on Valentine’s Day just because it’s cold. Get outside and see the world with your valentine!
Idea #3: Try something new.
This is our challenge to you. No matter where you are in the world for the holiday, try anything new. A new food, a new place, a new trail, a new event, anything. But try something outside of your comfort zone. To hell with comfort zones. The best part is, since it’s Valentine’s Day, you can convince your valentine to try it with you. Who knows, it could spark a new interest you both have and lead to many more adventures with your loved one. You just have to take that first step…. together!
Here’s to Your Strikhedonia Valentine’s Day
Time to get in the Strikhedonia mindset and throw out the predictable Valentine’s Day date ideas (don’t worry you don’t have to throw away the chocolate). Show your loved one they mean more by spending the day together somewhere out of the ordinary. This holiday we challenge you to celebrate Strikhedonia style. Now, let’s hit the road.
